Carpet Performance Starts Below
Carpet performance is determined as much by what sits beneath it as by the material itself. A properly specified pad extends the life of any carpet, maintains its appearance, and supports how it performs over time. When the foundation is correct, the result holds. When it is not, even the best materials will show wear prematurely. Our approach is straightforward: padding is specified based on application, not treated as a secondary decision.
Handmade & Loose Area Rugs
We use a double cushion system combining rubber and felt. It stabilizes the rug, protects the floor, and adds the right level of comfort without excess movement.
Broadloom (Stairs & Low-Profile Carpets)
For high-traffic areas and low-profile constructions, we specify Dura padding alongside high-density rubber. These materials maintain structure, reduce movement and perform under pressure. Check out our podcast for more info.
Fibre Protection & Maintenance
Material performance does not end at installation. Fibre protection should be part of the initial specification to support long-term performance.
We at Studio 321B offer professional fibre protection for area rugs. For area rugs over $3,000, we include:
• Complimentary fibre protection
• One year of spot cleaning service
This ensures the materials continue to perform as intended beyond installation.
A Practical Consideration
We’re not here to sell padding. We’re here to make sure your projects perform the way you intended. If you would like to review specifications for an upcoming project or discuss best-fit solutions, we're here to help.
